As many of you know, I've been playing keyboard at IHOP with Marcus Meier and Tim Reimherr (also known as Merchant Band outside of IHOP) since the fall of 2005. Before playing with Marcus and Tim, I played with Todd Ganovski, who has been serving the vision of a house of prayer in Nashville since 2005.

Marcus and Tim's team has woken up way too early and traveled to so many regional onething conferences, played at countless Sunday services, gone deep in singing the Song of Solomon, and have been wrecked by the drama of the cross of Christ. After being on the team for over 2 and a half years, I've formed friendships with these guys that are just the beginning of the beginning of what the Lord has in store for us for eternity. Sadly, seasons of life shift and change - but one thing can be certain - the Lord's leadership of our lives is perfect.

The Lord sovereignly shifted Marcus to a new leadership role in IHOP, and as a result the entire worship team disbanded and I was not on anyone's worship team for about a week. When Marcus shifted a couple of weeks ago, Tim Reimherr started his own new team with some new fresh musicians and singers (as well as some of those from Marcus' old team), and is still leading some of the 6am sessions in the house of prayer.
Justin Rizzo, another worship leader at IHOP, had asked me to join his team months ago, but I didn't feel like the timing was right. I had set it in my heart to stay steady with Marcus. But the Lord made it clear through some dreams and through Marcus' transition off of full-time worship leading that I was to join up with Justin instead of joining up with Tim's new team. Don't worry, there's absolutely no animosity between anyone, and we're all still great friends and brothers in the Lord. The Lord just made it abundantly clear that things were changing. To say it straight, I'm now playing keyboard with Justin Rizzo full-time. Justin and I were in the same internship together back in 2004 and have been friends since then. I even played for his worship team during the internship, so in some ways it does not feel all that new.

I really have some awesome memories with these guys from Merchant Band - for the first few years, with Shawn, Marcus, Tim, and Steven, and then the last year with Joel and Jordan. Check out a bunch of photos from the past couple years in various albums here. In the style of Shawn Blanc, I decided to write down some unknown facts, inside jokes, and memories I have with Merchant Band:
It's been an amazing few years. I've grown so much in my walk with the Lord as we prayed and played together day after day, and for that I am truly thankful. I'm excited to see where the Lord is going to take Tim with his new team and where the Lord is going to take Justin as I run with his team this next season. I'm also really excited to step even more into the realm of prophecy on my music. It's a burden I've been carrying for a while now, and Justin has such a heart for prophetic music and really pushes his musicians to reach for the Holy Spirit during sets in the house of prayer.
If you've got any cool memories of Merchant Band or anything you'd like to add, feel free to comment! (Nobody ever seems to comment on my blog, so if you don't comment I won't lose any sleep over it... heh)

That Sword Video

And dude, if you can find a way to publish the sword video from Re:Mix off your phone I buy your Chick-Fil-A on Wednesday.
Dude, you made free
Dude, you made free chick-fil-a too easy.
For those of you that are wondering, I'll get the video up on the site in a few days :)
Hey Hey!
Wow that is interesting. Its great to hear this incredible update and to know that God is moving in an awesome way. See ya later Josh!

Is that why so many of the
Is that why so many of the songs on Immersed are by Marcus and weren't put on a new Merchant Band album? I had been wondering. Anyway, how exciting for you. Justin Rizzo is one of my very favorites! I'm a long-distance webstream fan and I remember seeing you play in Omaha with Todd Ganovski a few years ago.
Immersed...
Well, Marcus had written all of those songs well before Immersed was even released and well before he knew that he was not going to be worship leading. So I am not sure that had much to do with it. But Marcus is still very much an active songwriter, and will probably lead worship at IHOP again some day...
And I remember that trip to Omaha with Todd! If my memory serves me correctly, Shelley Hundley spoke such a powerful word from the Lord during that trip, and the ministry time went so long that we had to rush out of the church because of the alarm system or something...

This post was very encouraging to me.
You've agreed with the Lord's plans and are not clinging to what you know to be familiar.I've been having a hard time with this especially since I will be leaving people dearest to me, and graduating college this year. I pray that the Lord will help me rejoice in His hand changing my seasons, as He has yours!

Zechariah?
Joshua,
I've really enjoyed your sets with Justin thus far. I've heard Justin is a REALLY SERIOUS guy all the time and many people try to make him laugh. I love his heart for sure.
Curious - are you guys going to continue going through Zechariah? You got to the end of Chapter 3, and last night Justin was doing Psalm 19. Going back today?
Much love to you guys from Texas!
Justin has a very humorous side
He's definitely not serious all the time, but I do really love his focus... In fact, the more I think of it, he does laugh a lot...
Last night, Justin subbed for Grace Kim at the 6pm, who's out of town for the Call Orlando. But we'll be going through Zechariah again for our sets on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, starting with chapter 4!
Glad you're following along with us man!
keyboard!
Hi Josh, I listen to/watch the web stream daily. I am also a novice keyboard player. One of my favorite times on Justin's sets is during his first song, he usually has the keyboardist play solo. It has been fun lately to watch you in that role. Great job and keep it up. I love guitars but yea for the keyboard players!
Thanks Theresa!
Thanks Theresa! That's encouraging!
so...?
what is Marcus doing now?
Marcus
Marcus is "section leading" in the afternoon section at IHOP, and occasionally subbing on sets. He feels the Lord has given him a season to give a lot of time to the Word. It's different for him, but he is excited about it!
almost like a pre-memory
I remember getting the postcard for the Sacramento Onething and it listing Tim Reimherr as the worship leader and thinking, "Eh? Does that mean Marcus isn't coming?" Then finding out that Merchant Band dis-banded and having that sinking feeling in my heart (j/k, kind of). God is so faithful though and I'm glad that there is no offense among you, and though there is no "title" you are still a band of merchants searching for that treasure and being that treasure.
Josh, Great post! Some of
Josh,
Great post! Some of those memories made me laugh. You are doing an awesome job with Justin. We miss you playing with Tim, though! I'm grateful to have you leading in the afternoons so I still get to glean from you! :)

Thanks Anna! I'm glad I get to keep working with you as well. You've got lots to teach our little afternoon section team about fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit :)
Thanks Josh!
Josh,
I really enjoyed you guys going through Zechariah! I'm listening to you play now, and although I'll miss Zechariah, excited that you guys are moving to Revelation. Thanks for going through sometimes "difficult" passages and providing "living commentary" through playing and singing through it.
Blessings!
Ryan
Thanks Ryan, the Zechariah
Thanks Ryan, the Zechariah sets were good for us (and others, apparently). It is hard though staying in a "teaching" mode for several sets. I guess that is what we're doing in many ways with more "normal" Worship with the Word sets... Nonetheless, we are back on the hymns of Revelation and a little bit of Eph. 1. So good for my heart!
Zechariah sets fan
I love the Zechariah sets too! I wish I could hear all of them. You guys should make up something like an h&b musical commentary.
That Omaha trip was our HOP's first young adult conference and it was great, but definitely pretty crazy at the end with about 15 minutes to pack up and leave.
Sharon, believe it or not,
Sharon, believe it or not, that's a vision we're running with. Justin and I are actually editing out all of the worship songs/spontaneous singing from the sets and just having a "singing commentary" of the back-to-back worship cycles from the sets.
Eventually, we want to do this with the whole bible... It's a lofty vision, but why not? :)
Awesome! I love that vision.
Awesome! I love that vision.
