Winter is not quite over yet in Kansas City

Winter in Kansas City

Yesterday we were all rudely awakened to several inches of heavy, wet snow. Above is just a shot of my back yard. I was assuming the forecasters were just being pessimistic by saying we'd be getting 3 inches. But when everything stopped yesterday around 4pm, we had close to 5 inches on the ground.

Now for someone growing up in a part of the country that is used to 12-18 inches of snow at a time, this was really not that big of a deal. But for native midwesterners, I can imagine how much inner trauma they were experiencing!

I was amazed yesterday too - Kansas City snow plows were out in force! All, 3 of them, that is. The side roads leading to my house were actually plowed before the snow completely ended.

The temperature warmed up enough during the snow to create a little bit of a melting effect on paved surfaces. If they hadn't been plowed, we would have ended up with a pure sheet of ice all over the road because everything refroze last night. And right now it's only 19F (-7C) with the sun shining brightly.

On Thursday of this week, the forecasters are predicting 68F (20C) weather.

And last year, it did snow in April...

Kansas City weather is so schizophrenic. I can't wait for spring!
