Technology and the IHOPU Student Awakening

Though I’m an intercessory missionary in my day-to-day occupation, my university degree is in computer science, making me still a bit of a technology nut. So when Jesus and technology are combined in really cool ways, my heart really begins to fall off its rocker.

Wes Hall, IHOPU’s provost and one of the main leaders of these awakening meetings, mentioned last week that there were over 10,000 viewers in 163 nations watching the meetings by webcast. The latest statistics from our webcasting department show that there has been between 6,000 and 10,000 unique viewers each night for the awakening services, which is about fifteen times the normal amount of viewers usually watching IHOP’s weekend services (which typically sees between 400 and 700 simultaneous viewers). The average view time has been over an hour and at the peak evening so far the servers have transferred about 1500 GB per evening. Wow.

It’s absolutely amazing to see how the Lord is using technology to connect people with Jesus as He touches their hearts, heals their bodies, and provokes them to a deeper level of commitment to the First Commandment. I personally know people across the US and across several nations (including Egypt, Canada, and the UK) that have been tuning in and receiving from the Lord. We’ve received testimonies from so many nations of lives being touched – simply because we turned on a video camera, connected it to a computer, and published a website. Praise God that the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, is omnipotent, omnipresent, and is certainly not confined to a small 2,000 seat building in south Kansas City!

Website: new look, new Drupal version, new everything

Well, after almost 2 years of the same website design, I figured it was time for a facelift and an upgrade to Drupal 6, the content management software that runs my website. I can’t begin to tell you how version 6 radically improves some of the features to make my site so much easier to manage and provide you with more relevant content!

A new website is coming...

To my loyal readers, friends, supporters, and lurkers - it's been a while since I've blogged, for two reasons:

1) I am currently helping as a teaching assistant for David Sliker's IHOPU 4th year class called "The Kingdom of God". It's a biblical overview of the kingdom of God from Genesis to Revelation. In short - the kingdom is an entirely future reality that will be manifest on this earth, where Jesus will sit in government over all of the nations of the earth in the same manner that David sat governing Israel. The kingdom of God is not a "spiritual" reality in the hearts of believers but a very "physical" reality yet to be manifest on the earth. I will definitely be blogging about the topic in the future as there's so much confusion in the body of Christ about it!

2) I have been working on a redesign of my website. I've had the same design for the past year and a half, and it needs a bit of a refresh. I'm also working on a boat-load of new content for it as well including new photos, teachings, downloads, audio, and a "gear" page describing how I use my Mac on stage at IHOP.

So with that in mind, is there anything in particular you want to see on my redesigned site? Leave me a comment!

Realistically it may be a couple more months before I get it launched, but I'm hoping to get the blog stream moving again once this class winds down in a week or so.

Thanks for staying tuned!

Need a web designer?

Hawkeye Design Group

Yesterday I relaunched my web design website. Check it out:

http://hawkeyedesigngroup.com

My heart is to use the funds I raise by building websites to financially support prayer and intercession both locally here in Kansas City and across the nation.

It's been over a year since I redesigned my personal website, and I think it will be due for a facelift soon. In the meantime, enjoy the facelift to my design website :)

GodTV's streaming of TheCall CA is broken. But...

... I got it working. For me, AND for you.

It seems like they're having some problems with their website. I used some of my tech skills to make it work for those of you who want to be a part of the prayer meeting - watch it here.

It seems to be working right now, but I'm not sure when it will stop working, so click at your own risk :)

UPDATE 4:55pm: GodTV's site looks like it's working again!

Justin Rizzo finally has a website

Justin and I have been going back and forth for a while now to get a simple and functional page up on his website, and I'm proud to say that it's finally done! He wanted to put something up before The Call this weekend.

Check out http://justinrizzo.com

Designed by yours truly. We ended up landing on something clean and uncluttered. Let me know what you think!

I can't believe this went unowned for so long...

The domain name "intercessorymissionary.com" was up for grabs until just a few days ago, when yours truly picked it up for a mere $9 per year.

I was in total shock that nobody had purchased it up to this point. Maybe that's just the geek-meets-intercessor thing in me...

So for those of you who can't remember my name but do remember what I am and what I do, you can always go to:

http://intercessorymissionary.com

to reach my site.

Sweet!

What you have been googling...

googlelogo.gifI have Google Analytics set up for my site, and as a result I’ve been able to check out some of the search terms that internet users have used to reach my site. Some of them are really funny, some of them are fairly normal and expected, and others are pretty interesting, so I figured I would devote a post to them so people could actually find what they were looking for.

My laptop finally broke...

My trusty 4.5 year old Powerbook G4's screen went dark a few days ago. What an amazing computer it's been. It's seen many cities in traveling with onething and many hours in and on stage at IHOP. The hard drive crashed last year (which I replaced myself, because the 3-year warranty had run out), but this time around something's wrong with the screen. A replacement screen goes for about $600, and then labor on top of that would probably be another $300. Why pay almost $900 to fix an outdated, obsolete computer when I can just put that money towards a new one? Praise God for hearing my prayers, because the Lord has provided all of the money I need to get a new Mac.

Posts and updates to the blog might be a bit sparse until I can buy a new one and get everything set up on it...

UPDATE (5/27 7pm): I'm posting from the Powerbook! I decided to dismantle the computer and see if I could figure out what the problem was. I may have temporarily fixed it by messing with the LCD inverter (the screen is not flashing, at least not as much). I've been using Jordan Vanderplate's 12" Powerbook with my external hard drive for IHOP sets, and that seems to be working out okay for the time being. Hopefully I have at least a week or two left on this one before I buy a new one with the funds that the Lord so graciously and unexpectedly provided!!!

UPDATE (6/5 9:30am): The Powerbook's screen just died again. I was in the middle of writing a friend an email about prophetic music! :) It started flashing severely last night and I think the replacement inverter is totally blown now. There's probably a problem with the logic board that's causing the inverter to burn out. I think it's officially retired now! Only one more week before the new computer...

Website updates...

I've finally been able to knock 2 things off my lengthy to-do list for my website! If you're reading this on a feedreader, be sure to go visit my site.

Here's a lowdown of the changes:

  • You may notice a "remember me" check box now in the login block. If you've got an account on my site, no more logging in every time you visit! The site will remember your login for 30 days before you have to reauthenticate now.
  • You'll also find a revamped audio downloads section. Check out the most popular (by number of downloads) audio and browse all downloads by artist. Hopefully things will be easier to navigate and find the teaching you're looking for. I've also added several new teachings from the KC onething conference last year, so be sure to check those out.

I've also just sent out my first web newsletter, now viewable from this link. Be sure to sign up for future newsletters by entering your email address on the sidebar box entitled "Email updates list" on the front page of my site.
