Prophetic Musicians

I believe the Lord is calling forth more than ordinary Sunday morning church musicians and Christian performers all across the earth today. He’s inviting musicians to give themselves to Him in ways of unusual dedication, consecration, humility, and holiness in order that the testimony of Christ may be known through their music in a greater way. These are more than just musicians that are Christians – they are prophetic musicians that exalt the supremacy of Christ and play melodies and songs that carry weight and power from God to help prepare people for the day of the LORD.

The term “prophetic musician” is simply an easy way I’m using of describing someone operating in prophecy and musicianship – combining the testimony of Jesus with music. Just as a preacher or teacher can operate in the spirit of prophecy with their words, musicians can also operate in the spirit of prophecy. I believe music speaks a language that transcends spoken words. A Frenchman who does not understand Spanish cannot understand the Spaniard when they speak, but the Frenchman can feel emotion and be moved by the melody of a piece of music played by the Spaniard. The melody or song played by a musician has the ability to be prophetic, or put more simply, to be a testimony to the love, power, and heart emotions of Jesus Christ.

My favorite passage on prophetic musicianship is found in 1 Samuel 16, where David was asked to play his instrument before the demonized King Saul:

And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him. (1 Sam. 16:23 NKJV)

Prophetic music also delivered Israel from armies in 2 Chronicles 20:

“And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.”
Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.”
(2 Chronicles 20:21-23 NKJV)

I believe the Lord is raising up musicians, singers, and worship leaders in our day and hour that will release God’s heart and revelation of His worth to others through music. If you feel a stirring in your heart that this might be you, you’ve come to the right place!
