The beauty of Jesus in the incarnation - Introduction

by Josh Hawkins
Posted on November 27, 2010

As we approach yet another Advent and Christmas season, I wanted to write a series of posts to look at the birth of Jesus. I am convinced that there can never be enough pondering, thinking, meditating, and talking about the Son of God taking on flesh and being born into the world. Theologians call this event the Incarnation. My heart is to write short posts that aid in your meditation and keep your heart focused as the weeks progress. This series will be by no means comprehensive, but I do want to help you to gasp with fresh amazement and bring you into feeling the weight of...

The return of Jesus and prayer, part 6 of 7

Posted on November 27, 2010

This is part 6 of a 7 part interview I did with Jim Hall from House of Prayer Edmonton (hopedmonton.ca). Why is it important to study the end-times and the return of Jesus? Why is it seemingly complicated to understand? What should I do to prepare and how should I go about studying what the Bible has to say about it? These and more are all questions I answered for Jim in this interview in August 2010.

This is part 4 of a 7 part interview I did with Jim Hall from House of Prayer Edmonton (hopedmonton.ca). Why is it important to study the end-times and the return of Jesus? Why is it seemingly complicated to understand? What should I do to prepare and how should I go about studying what the Bible has to say about it? These and more are all questions I answered for Jim in this interview in August 2010.

Part 4 - Understanding the "continuity" between this age and the age to come is critical to a biblical understanding of the return of Jesus. Why does what we do with our heart in this...

The beauty of Jesus as the Servant of All

Posted on November 8, 2010

One of the highest expressions of God’s love is His meekness and servanthood. As the glory of God is seen plainly and perfectly in the face of Jesus (2 Corinthians 4:6), we are beckoned in to see God’s meekness, humility, and servanthood throughout every moment of His life. Jesus was fully satisfied in taking on flesh and emptying Himself of so great an exaltation (Philippians 2:5-8). It was not something He resentfully or grudgingly achieved. He never had nor will ever have regrets about becoming poor for our sake (2 Corinthians 8:9). From the most mundane of days to the climax of...

The weighty words of Jesus

by Josh Hawkins

Imagine wandering off a hiking path to explore other parts of the woods. Unaware of how much time has passed, you suddenly realize nightfall is nearing. You’re stumbling around at dusk frantically looking for the trail markers, but fail to find them. You know that there are cliffs, ledges, and holes around that could easily claim your life with one wrong step. As the darkness closes in, you begin to wonder if you should have just gone elsewhere for a walk where there is an abundance of pavement and streetlights. As night sets in, so does fear. If only you would have listened to...
