Okay, Mark 6:45-51 is perhaps one of the craziest passages in the whole Bible! I've been meditating on it for a few days now, and I can't believe how much I've "missed" from the story. I'm sure we all know about the time when Jesus walked on water. But I've been challenged to "go deeper" and to really figure out what was going on. It's so invigorating to my heart to let my holy imagination get into the story and then to ask Jesus questions about it! So this post is just a splash of my thoughts and questions to Jesus on the passage.

“Immediately He made His...

It's Christmas time again, which means, at least for an IHOP guy like me, the onething conference is right around the corner, the prayer room slims down to the people who actually live in Kansas City (since many students and interns leave for the holidays), and many of the prayer room sets and songs are sung around passages relating to the birth of Christ.

I seriously wish we could take an entire month out of each year and corporately meditate on the incarnation. Of all of the things that we should center our lives around, few, if anything at...

I believe the greatest point of contention that men will wrestle with at the end of the age is the identity of Jesus. Is he just a good man that lived a few thousand years ago or is He fully God?

I’ve been studying Christology lately, and even just yesterday my roommate Tim spoke to some Jehovah’s Witnesses at our door. As we were talking last night, we both quickly made the point that the root of the problem in their faith is their misunderstanding of the person of Jesus. They believe He was just a mediator for a super-spiritual class of believers throughout history, the 144,...

IHOP-KC is currently on a corporate 40-day fast crying out for God’s glory in our midst. I’ve been asking myself the question “what does that practically look like for me?” and figured I’d share my heart on it.

I had to ask the basic question - what is the glory of God, and why do I want it? When we think of glory, do we think of a bright and shining sparkly cloud that comes into a room? Do we think His glory comes to give us a good meeting where a bunch of people fall on the floor? When we are asking for glory, what are we asking for?

In Exodus 33, Moses asked God to...

We all desire intimacy with God on a deep level. It’s what we were made and fashioned for. But what exactly does it mean and how do we grow in it? Most believers are confident that they desire intimacy with Jesus, but few can tell you exactly what it means or how to obtain it. Intimacy with God is not supposed to be just a vague and nebulous idea that only a few are able to truly obtain in life. We need clarity on exactly what it is and how we obtain it because we can never expect to lay hold of something unless we know what we’re looking for.

Intimacy with God is much...

Understanding how God feels, thinks, acts, and who He is in His nature radically changes the way we live our lives. Our view of ourselves, others and life in general is fundamentally and profoundly affected by our idea or view of God. A.W. Tozer says that “all of the problems of heaven and earth, though they were to confront us together and at once, would be nothing compared with the overwhelming problem of God: That He is; what He is like and what we as moral beings must do about Him. The man who comes to a right belief about God is relieved of ten thousand temporal problems.”
