24/7 worship, even on holidays...

Posted on May 28, 2012

Today is Memorial Day in the US, where our nation pauses to remember those who have served in our armed forces. Many Americans have a 3-day weekend and spend today with friends and family. I have many fond memories of Memorial Day growing up. My family would always attend a church-wide picnic where we would all fellowship, eat, and play outdoor games. On our annual drives to the park I would frequently think about men and women serving in careers that required them to work on holidays. Nurses, grocery store workers, gas station attendants, and security personnel are among those who...

The Priesthood of Humanity

By Josh Hawkins
Posted on December 23, 2011

Genesis 2 says that God set Adam in the Garden in Eden to "tend and keep" it. Contrary to our modern assumption, God created Adam with much more than farming in mind. Adam's primary created purpose was that of a priest - ministering to God in a sanctuary.

Rightly understanding Adam as the model for all of humanity's created purpose as priests brings clarity to the reason for the increase of night and day prayer across the globe today.

From the assimilation of God into our worldview to the purpose of our worship, Josh develops and traces this biblical foundation established...

The Glory of God and Night and Day Prayer

By Josh Hawkins
Posted on December 23, 2011

God's own glorification - simply being praised and adored by the works of His hands - is His supreme purpose in all of creation. Humanity was created to serve this purpose. Though we have departed from this purpose, God is fiercely committed to His glory and will not allow anything else to be seen as more deserving of honor and allegiance than Himself.

In light of God's plan to put His glory on display through His Son Jesus, we can better evaluate the reason for a groundswell of night and day prayer across the earth today. Without this foundational understanding, the call to...

11 years of night and day prayer... but why?

Posted on September 20, 2010

Yesterday, September 19, 2010, the International House of Prayer in Kansas City celebrated 11 years straight of non-stop worship and prayer. The prayer meeting that began on September 19, 1999 has never stopped. In our day and age of religious pluralism, cultural convenience, and informational overload, it is an absolute miracle that this prayer meeting, mostly fueled by young adults, has continued this long. But ceaseless worship and prayer is not just a phenomenon going on in Kansas City. All over the United States and the world, prayer rooms are springing up without any coordinated...

The Worth of Christ and the End of the Age

By Stephen Venable
Posted on May 4, 2010

In this teaching, IHOPU instructor Stephen Venable lays out the biblical reasons for a crescendo of worship and prayer at the end of the age. He describes how God has chosen to reveal His unique identity to the whole world, resulting in incessant, perpetual adoration of Jesus the Messiah as God Himself. In other words, the Lord is orchestrating a global worship movement that will culminate with the worship of God on earth as it is in heaven.

The fact that the concept of a global worship movement is often met with such indifference reveals how deeply disconnected we are from God’...

The Worth of Christ and 24/7 worship and prayer

By Stephen Venable
Posted on April 27, 2010

In this teaching, Stephen Venable (instructor and dean at IHOPU) relates the movement of 24/7 prayer and worship to the worth of Jesus as the one who is most deserving of all of our adoration and praise all of the time. Worship is not a means to an end, it is the end. Before there were any needs that had to be met, bodies to be healed, or injustices to be ended, the beauty of the LORD warranted the incessant cries of the seraphim and the worship of the first man, Adam. God first and foremost made us to serve Him, not the other way around.

In seeking to biblically...

Singing the New Song - worship at the end of the age

By Matt Candler
Posted on April 27, 2010

In this teaching, Matt Candler develops the theme of worship at the end of the age that culminates in the singing of the "new song". More than a "new sound" or single song, Matt lays out the biblical evidence for the theme of the "new song" mentioned by many passages as it relates to the second coming of Christ, the day of the LORD, and the restoration of all things.

If you are an intercessor, musician, or singer and want to receive even more biblical clarity on what you are called to, I'd highly recommend this teaching.

Matt gave this teaching in April 2010 at IHOP's...

The Worship and Prayer Movement at the End of the Age

By Stephen Venable
Posted on February 3, 2010

In this teaching, IHOPU dean Stephen Venable gives the foundational biblical principles and solid reason for the seemingly spontaneous gatherings of believers all across the world to engage in unceasing prayer and worship. Steven explains that because history has a purposeful end where all of creation acknowledges that Jesus is God and He alone has the preeminence, the worship and prayer movement must be looked at in that light.

I'd highly recommend this teaching for anyone wanting to gain biblical perspective on how the Lord is moving on the earth today. The 24/7 prayer...
