In today's Christianity, "Christ" has become a synonym for "Jesus", and "Lord" has become a synonym for "master". But for the early church, Lord and Christ had significant meaning.

In this teaching, Stephen Venable analyzes Peter's sermon in Acts 2. By His resurrection, Jesus was confirmed to be the Christ, the anointed king who would sit on David's throne in Jerusalem. By His ascension, Jesus was confirmed to be the Lord, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, because He took His seat on God's throne at His right hand.

The ultimate and certain hope of Christians is that God will raise us from death and give us a new body, like the one Jesus has, so that we might live on a restored Earth with Him forever. In 1 Thessalonians, the Apostle Paul reminds believers who have had loved ones die of this great hope and then says "comfort one another with these words".

In that spirit, I had the honor and privilege of giving the exhortation at the memorial service of a mentor and dear friend Bob Falkner who died from cancer in April 2017. Bob was 70.

God has designed us to love stories, and there's one story that He's going to use to thrill our hearts forever. This story, often called the gospel is what the Bible tells us about. However, the story of the gospel does not begin halfway through that book.
