After natural disasters like the Haitian earthquake, humanitarian aid organizations like the Red Cross solicit donations from so many. Believers and unbelievers alike are moved with compassion are quick to give finance to providing for the less fortunate and those in need.
Remembering the poor and less fortunate especially in times of need is extremely important and biblical (Gal. 2:10, Prov. 22:9, 2 Cor. 9:9). Unfortunately what these "gospel-less" aid organizations are doing to rebuild, restore, and bring answers in crisis is like putting a small band-aid on an open knife wound to the heart.
Haiti’s problems are deeper than the devastation of an earthquake and the government’s response to it. America’s problems run much deeper than healthcare and abortion. The world’s problems run much deeper than hunger, poverty, and human trafficking.
The deeper problem of our world comes down to one thing – the influences of Satan and the powers of darkness.
The bible’s ultimate perspective on solving the world’s problems and injustices is not through humanitarian aid. According to Jesus in Luke 18:7, true justice is released in the most dynamic way possible through the ministry of night and day prayer:
“Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night?”
Why nonstop worship and prayer? Because night and day prayer addresses the root problem. Continuing the analogy above, it removes the knife from the heart and brings complete healing rather than just placing a bandage on the open gash. When night and day prayer for justice is in operation, the war over nations, cities, and people groups is waged in the heavenlies rather than only on the earth. Once darkness is dislodged and the light of the gospel breaks in through the preaching of Christ by the church, the hearts of unbelievers turn and darkness loses its grip on the hearts of men. Because hearts change, cities and nations begin to change and are ultimately prepared for the second coming of Christ, when every injustice will be swept away forever. Night and day prayer is the primary way the Bible encourages believers to stand for the ending of injustices.
When you support intercessors in the night and day prayer movement with your finances, you actually addressing the root of the problem of injustice and oppression and supporting the true, biblical solution to it. You stand in the gap with me and others like me to save the souls of the needy from the flames of hell, not just fill their belly and clothe them.
In addition to or instead of the support you provide to other humanistic aid organizations during times of need, consider supporting intercessors involved in the night and day prayer movement. Night and day prayer and an ongoing encounter with the Lord sweeps us up into the movements of His heart and lead us into the dark places of the earth where light has been a stranger, to seek and save the lost.
