Call it "devotions", "secret place", or "quiet time", our hearts always seem to struggle to maintain time alone with God. If our weak heart and the devil's distraction is not enough, our modern society and culture is also geared to pull us away from solitude. As I wrote about last month, there's enough trinkets, toys, new models, new movies, and new things coming out to numb us to our boredom. Sometimes we find it almost impossible to find that "alone" time with the Lord because there's always one more person to network with, one more email to send, one more phone call to make, or one...

Yesterday much of the Far East and the Southwest US experienced an annular solar eclipse, often described as a "ring of fire" because of the way the moon blocks out most of the sun, leaving a bright ring around it in the sky. Much of the event was also visible here in Missouri, beginning around 7:30pm and lasting for 45 or 50 minutes.

I was able to view the eclipse at my folks' house where they have an open view of the western sky thanks to the rolling Missouri plains. We took turns looking...

Take a second and remember what it was like when you finally were able to call yourself a teenager. Remember how awesome it felt to be able to include yourself in the “cool” class of people? Go back even further and ponder what it was like for your parents to see your birth. What excitement and joy filled their hearts? Now go back even further to the moment your grandparents were born. Keep going back. Further. Further. Go all the way back to Jesus. Isaiah. Jeremiah. Solomon. David. Abraham. Adam. Every one of those men had a beginning.

I've been super busy with my kitchen renovation the past couple of days - painting, painting, and more painting. It's amazing what some fresh paint and new cabinet hardware (courtesy of IKEA) will do to a kitchen! I'll post some before and after pics on my photo gallery when I've completed everything.

Well, this coming Monday starts a 3-week-long change in my schedule. I'm helping David Sliker as a teaching assistant for his "Biblical Foundations of Eschatology" class at FSM...
